all right, not really a meme. tv tropes will ruin your life! i was thinking about what tropes my echo bazaar characters fall under, and put together lists -- if anyone wants to do the same for characters of their own, they should go right on ahead.

theodor.
agent scully. tried to be this once, but let's be honest, these days his methods belong more to an agent cooper.
badass bookworm. a reluctant one, of course.
go mad from revelation. three times in the first week.
occult detective. the sort of thing he did on the surface -- that's slightly more respectable than ghost-hunter, isn't it?
the philosopher. just give him a pole or, rather, a hansom cab.
renaissance man. scholar of folklore, philosophy, linguistics ... and on the gameplay level, his stats are close to even, with a slight lead in watchfulness.
spockspeak. tends to vary between this and antiquated linguistics with the occasional burst of sophisticated as hell.
stoic spectacles. after (or during) a brawl he'll even stop to adjust his glasses.
tranquil fury. how he tends to behave in the aforementioned brawls.
tsundere. with henrik. it's embarrassing.

narcissus, or narciso.
adventurer archaeologist. what he thinks of his exploits in the forgotten quarter.
the barnum. his favorite way to make money, next to hitting the card tables.
bored with insanity. after his stay at the royal bethlehem, or he says. his dreams of chess rattle him more than he lets on.
broken ace. was the second kind on the surface -- would still be one in the neath if he hadn't taken a turn towards brilliant but lazy.
chivalrous pervert. and an ethical slut!
the dandy. from his exceptional hat down to his scarlet stockings.
drowning my sorrows. when one of his team members in the forgotten quarter died.
the gambling addict. hopelessly -- even the spider-pits at the wolfstack docks excite him.
obfuscating stupidity. he likes to present himself as a great deal more flighty and shallow than he really is.

delphina.
black and nerdy. an autodidact, even!
great detective. what she did on the surface, and considers herself to be foremost.
kuudere. tends to wear a blank face and speak in a slow, measured manner, but it won't take long to recognize she's not the emotionless girl she seems to be.
mystery magnet. she knows it's more to do with the neath than her, but still.
phantom thief. what her adventures in the flit are turning her into -- she's learning that planning the master theft can be as satisfying as solving it.
sesquipedalian loqaciousness. a woman of few and sizable words.
shrinking violet. painfully. the least bit of scandal makes her want to panic and hide in the tomb-colonies forever.
smart people play chess. her preferred social action.
sweet polly oliver. when she's disguised as a butler or infiltrating a gentleman's club.
to be lawful or good. the choice she made to complete the 'courier of the dead' storyline by building up connected: criminals and attaining an audience with the gracious widow.

(That works for me! I was willing to take it as a quaint and faily pronunciation quirk on Henrik's part, or possibly his attempt at playing to their shared love of Ovid, if nothing else had been established.)
